Hello friends. We have some Mayfest news.
We’re taking a year off in 2017. Mayfest has been rampaging all over Bristol for, well, years. In the past few years the festival has increased quite dramatically in terms of reach, scale and ambition. And this year, we’ve really struggled to secure the additional investment we need in order to bring you the festival to which you are accustomed. As you may be aware, the pressures of fundraising in the current climate make delivering an annual festival very demanding. So we’ll be back in 2018, and every ‘even’ year after that. In order to keep thriving, we need longer to make it all happen.
And while we’ll miss the old dear next year, this is actually rather exciting. Because we’re not going away.
This structure will also enable us to explore our off-peak programming through a series of what we are currently calling ‘fireworks’. Expect these in each ‘odd year’ – exhilarating live experiences that will join the dots from one festival to another, and help us and you discover new places, new voices, and different stories.
This festival belongs to you. Keep telling us what you’d like to be a part of, won’t you?
Kate and Matthew.
You can play a part in the future of the festival in three ways:
