Bodies in Flight (Dream-Work, Mayfest 2010 and Who By Fire, Mayfest 2004) return to the festival with a specially staged version of Gymnast at Bristol Gymnastics Centre in Hartcliffe.
Performed in the vast gymnasium, and featuring a choir and professional gymnasts, the piece responds to the 2012 Games by exploring the athlete’s drive and determination to achieve physical excellence.
Acclaimed Bristol-based company Bodies in Flight have been making performance together since 1990. The company is led by choreographer Sara Giddens and writer Simon Jones.
How to get there:
Take the number 75 bus from Broad Quay towards Whitchurch Lane and alight at Hartcliffe, Lampton Avenue (on Bishport Avenue), then head north on Bishport Avenue towards the crossroads. Turn right at the crossroads onto Lampton Avenue, then take the first left, onto Teyfant Road. The Gymnastics Centre will be on the right. The bus leaves at 15 and 45 minutes past every hour on a Sunday, and takes approximately 35 minutes.
By Car (from Temple Meads Station)
Take the first left onto Temple Gate/ A4. Go through one roundabout, then take a slight right onto Wells Road/ A37. After 1.4 miles, turn right onto Airport Road/ A4174. At the next roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Hartcliffe Way, and continue onto Hawkfield Road. Take the 1st left onto Bishport Avenue, then the 2nd left onto Lampton Avenue. Finally, take the first right onto Teyfant Road. The Gymnastics Centre will be on the right.
