What better way to underscore conservative economic policy than with the sound of PURE EVIL?
Part gig, part metal-recital, part exorcism, #TORYCORE combines sludge and doom metal with the Budget speech 2014; a pounding subverbal deathgrowl with text samples from the blue suits at Tory HQ.
Chris Thorpe (the oh f**k moment, Mayfest 2013 and I Wish I Was Lonely, Mayfest 2014) and Steve Lawson on guitar, Lucy Ellinson (A Thousand Shards of Glass, Mayfest 2013) on vocals with lyrics by George Osborne and the architects of austerity. #TORYCORE is twisted avant-garde metal and a guttural vocal that plays like a verbatim record of a government ripping society’s guts out.
Winner of The Arches Brick Award 2012.
Created and performed by Lucy Ellinson, Chris Thorpe and Steve Lawson
“Forest Fringe’s Death Metal version of the budget not perfect but magnificently visceral” (Time Out)
“This noise pierced the festering sense of injustice within me and set me on fire.”
“It’s pure, unadulterated, real anger, and is a sort of purging catharsis for those of us on the left who let those feelings bottle up inside us and feel powerless to act” (Dan Hutton (three times winner of the Howard Hobson award for theatre criticism))
In association with Forest Fringe, first performed at The Gate Theatre London.
