Sleepdogs

Mayfest 2020 is no longer taking place due to Covid-19. We need your support now more than ever, so sign up to our mailing list, or consider donating, to help us deliver an even more exceptional festival in the future.

This is a world where death exists. Loss is hard. Grief is like a river. It’s powerful and you can’t hold it back.

The Cause and Effect is a gig of songs from Sleepdogs’ forthcoming musical A Million Tiny Glitches –the story of a woman who goes looking for her friend; a friend who has vanished inside a city of his own imagination. Both have lost someone they love and it’s cracked the landscape of their lives. A Million Tiny Glitches is a weird and emotional dream quest through those fractures.

The songs go deep and feel modern; they embrace sadness without being sombre. Think Bjork, ANOHNI, Nine Inch Nails and FKA Twigs. And yeah, there’ll be a band.

Sleepdogs is a wide-ranging collaboration between director and sound designer, Tanuja Amarasuriya and writer and composer Timothy X Atack, making theatre, screen and audio work characterised by imaginative storytelling and visceral, emotional, sensory aesthetics.

Their work ranges from existential sci-fi theatre (DARK LAND LIGHT HOUSE) to electro-pop albums made entirely from field recordings (LNK_A), and has been commissioned, and presented nationally and internationally, including by: the National Theatre (London), Bristol Old Vic, Seattle International Film Festival, English Heritage, Manchester Royal Exchange, BBC Radio, NexT International Film Festival (Bucharest), BIOS (Athens) and Sura Medura (Sri Lanka).

Outside of Sleepdogs, Tanuja has directed and sound designed work by writers and theatremakers including Danusia Samal, Improbable, Selina Thompson, Raucous, Inua Ellams/Fuel and Chris Thorpe & Rachel Chavkin.

Tim’s work includes with Neil Bartlett, Matt Lucas & David Walliams, and Chris Goode & Co. Tim writes regularly for BBC Radio, including the award-winning THE MORPETH CAROL (Best Drama, 2014 Radio Academy Awards) and FOREST 404 (Best Radio Drama, 2020 Writers Guild Awards) and his play, HEARTWORM won the 2017 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting.
